| hi, this is lars "turbo" amble. "a job well begun is half done" is a dj mix i recorded at my place in early 2012; the 2nd i've recorded for promotional distribution since 2010's "someone just made this shit up". if you're here, it's more than likely because you want to actually listen to said mix, so with that said, click here (or right click and click "save as") to listen to (or download) the mix. i recently read an interview with underworld from back in 2002. two things (amongst many other things) that they said stuck out in my head. 1 was that they never pre-plan their sets when playing live. 2 was that they always intentionally try to make something go wrong during every show. these things embody in my mind a truly beautiful spirit of artistry and musicianship. in this day in age, especially in electronic music, when so many djs are moving into the realm of software that can basically mix everything for them, striving for more perfecter-than- perfect mixes at all costs, even if a machine is doing it for you - if anything is to be made a statement by this mix it is that imperfection is just as, if not more, valid than any idea of perfection we could conjure up in our heads. because all perfection is is an idea that's up to individual perception and exists in no solid way anywhere in reality outside of one single person's idea of what "perfection" might be. we're not perfect creatures. we all make mistakes. and mistakes can be great. i tried a lot of new things in this mix; i think some worked better than others but that too is all relative. i just hope that you, the listener, like what you hear and that you are as moved by this music as i am. some transitions are smoother than others, much like everything else in life. let's embrace all of it. i know i look forward to revisiting this mix in the future from wherever-i-am in another 2 years and however much more skill and talent i have then as a looking-back point to where i was when things were still just starting out for me. life happens. beauty is everywhere. and like a friend of mine said, if you fuck up, just do it 5 more times and people will think you meant to do it. let's embrace imperfection and love each other. thanks for reading and much thanks for listening. and please support the artists who's music i am playing in this mix. they are as follows: syphilis sauna seabound josh gabriel dave dresden atb fuldner silicone soul nick curly claes rosen underworld tim davidson jason lemaitre claude vonstroke james zabiela calibre subwave the sect a-sides naibu rockwell consequence john tejada nuno dos santos tj kong |
